Through the Carving Out Future Decoy Makers Program master carvers work with students to pass the tradition of how to make a traditional hunting decoy. The students then enter their artworks into the Chesapeake Challenge at the Ward Museum’s annual fall event, Chesapeake Wildfowl Expo. This project’s intent is to help preserve, promote, and present the decoy carving traditions of the United States.
Carvings featured were donated by some of the master artists who participated in the program in the last three years. All proceeds from the auction will supplement the fourth year of the ‘Carving Out Future Decoy Makers’ project, allowing the program to expand and flourish.
The Carving Out Future Decoy Makers project is supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
