Volunteer Coordinator

The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, Salisbury University seeks applicants for the part- time position of Volunteer Coordinator.

The Ward Museum is nestled next to Schumaker Pond in Salisbury, Maryland. The Museum galleries feature the world's largest and finest public collection of decorative and antique decoys, while its grounds and nature trails invite visitors to be inspired by the beauty of the natural world. Through exhibits, events, and educational programs the museum celebrates art, nature and tradition.

The Ward Museum is a cherished part of its local community on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and far beyond. The museum has an international reputation for excellence through its exhibitions, events and outreach programs and is accredited by the American Association of Museums. The part-time Volunteer Coordinator leads the museum’s volunteer program and participates in a wide-range of museum programs and activities.

Duties: Identify, recruit, train, and supervise the 500+ active volunteers of the museum. Manage volunteer enrichment and training programs. Produce quarterly volunteer newsletters. Participate in community outreach activities. Organize special events. Some weekends required.

Qualifications: Bachelors Degree with 2 years related management experience. Experience in non-profit setting preferred. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills required.

2011-2012
Internships at the Ward Museum


The Ward Museum Education Department seeks students interested in the fields of environmental studies, education, art and history.

Dates (Flexible):
September - December 2011
January - May 2012

Hours:
Flexible, opportunities Monday through Saturday. Regular commitments of 10-20 hours per week preferred.

Job Summary:
We are seeking individuals that are able to work independently, are self-motivated, and that share a passion for the environment and the heritage of the Eastern Shore to work with the Education Department on special initiatives that include art, history, environmental and outdoor education.

Qualifications:
• Interest or experience in education, biology, art, history or environmental science
• Interest in learning about environmental education and heritage of the Eastern Shore
• Basic computer skills
• Self-motivated and able to work independently and with a team

Requirements:
• 18+ years of age
• Some undergraduate coursework required
• Preferred: 2+ semesters of coursework in art, education, biology, or related field

Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship; however, you can obtain academic credit for this internship.
