An exciting lineup of classes from master carvers throughout the United States and Canada are offered in Ocean City prior to the World Championship. April 25 - 27 (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.): Educational Carving Conference
Growing from the Ward Museum's dedication and interest in professional development, an educational conference format during the World Championship weekend was established. Designed to meet the needs of the professional or amateur carver, the conference includes a variety of seminars ranging in time from one to six hours. Held on the second floor of the convention center, participants can enjoy these learning opportunities without leaving the action of the World Championship. More information.

This program is designed for children of the preschool to first-grade age. Early learners hear lively stories pertaining to the environment. Following the reading, a craft activity is conducted.

Saturday, May 10 (10 a.m. - noon): Paint-a-pot and Native Plant Sale
Children's activities will complement the Lower Shore Land Trust's native plant sale at the museum. Activities include decorating terra cotta pots for spring seedlings and making leaf rubbings. Coloring activities are free. Pot decorating fee is $2-$5 depending on size of pot. Each pot comes with soil and a seed. Receive free admission to the museum with the purchase of a native plant.
July 14-18 (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.) Nature Inspired Art Camp

Children ages 8 -12 enjoy a week filled with art and environmental educational activities. Artists hold classes each day and between classes children participate in educational activities to learn about the environment and backyard habitats. Project schedule is as follows:

The types of programs that the children will enjoy at the event include activities such as learning about the health of our watershed, wetland wonders, making environmental message banners, the rewards of recycling, interactive puppet shows, various art activities, learning about butterflies in our butterfly garden and making a birdfeeder. It is programs like these where students learn to become stewards of our cultural and natural heritage and carry on the traditions of the Bay.

Regional Carver: Eddie Wozny

Wildfowl carver Eddie Wozny of Cambridge, Maryland will be featured in this season's Regional Carving exhibit. Eddie's work includes a vast array of waterfowl, shorebirds, upland game fowl, birds of prey, and songbirds. He creates flyers and miniatures in addition to life-sized interpretations.

The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum's Birds in Art exhibit returns to the Ward Museum. This exhibit seeks to present the very best contemporary artistic interpretations of birds and related subject matter. WARD WORLD WILDFOWL CARVING COMPETITION
April 25-27, 2008 at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center Ocean City
See the World's best wildfowl art! Over 150 varieties of bird carvings from highly decorative works of art to functional hunting decoys by 800 of the world's best carvers can be viewed at the premiere, most prestigious competition in the world. Attend seminars given by master carvers. Buy carvings at the Carver's Art Shop. Shop at over 120 exhibitors' booths selling fine art work, home decorating items, folk art, jewelry, sporting goods, and carving and art supplies. Bid on carvings at the Saturday afternoon auction.
The event features Educational Conference seminars and workshops on various aspects of carving for all skills levels and on related topics. The Kids' Corner offers children many projects, including soap carving, painting a decoy, and an opportunity to complete a carving project under the instruction of a world champion. Full details
TASTE OF SALISBURY
July 27, 2008 (12 to 3pm)
The Ward Museum partners with the Locally Owned Restaurant Association (LORA) for a community mixer with free food samples from participating restaurants. Museum programs, volunteerism, and membership opportunities are showcased. There is a "Pick Your Prize" Raffle of items donated by locally owned businesses. This event is free and open to the public.
THE CHESAPEAKE WILDFOWL EXPO
October 10-11, 2008 -- FREE ADMISSION ALL WEEKEND!
The Chesapeake Wildfowl Expo is a two-day event of festivities. Friday and Saturday the parking lot becomes a Market Place for buying, selling and trading of antique and contemporary waterfowling items. Friday evening enjoy an Eastern Shore Pig Roast. Saturday the Chesapeake Challenge and 'Old' Decoy Competitions are held along with a chicken barbeque, waterfowling cooking and carving demos and children programs. Admission to the museum and event is free. Tickets are available for the pig roast and the chicken bbq will be for sale on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Full details.
