Rechin has been a carving and painting instructor of decoys and songbirds for many years. At the North American Songbird Championship in York, PA, he took First in Category seven times. Of those seven, he took Best in Show four times. He also took First in Category three times in a row at the Northern Virginia Artistry in Wood show. In 1998 and 2000, he won Best in World Decorative Miniatures at the Ward World Championship.
