Delmarvalous Festival

August 14, 2021

Come celebrate Delmarva Culture, Decoy Carving, Traditional Arts, and Local History!

The Ward Museum’s one-of-a-kind, one-day folklife festival returned in 2020 by popular demand, as an all-new hybrid in-person/online event. Below you’ll find links to highlights from the event, and find the names of the winners of the Chesapeake Challenge Decoy Contest.

Folklife Videos

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, much of 2020’s Delmarvalous Festival went virtual. Ward Museum staff conducted original interviews with seven regional tradition bearers talking about blacksmithing, collecting antique decoys, farming, and more. These were turned into short documentary videos highlighting our regional cultural heritage. Check out all the videos here. To be a part of the 2021 festival email kaclattenburg@salisbury.edu.

Chesapeake Challenge

In 2020 the Chesapeake Challenge found a new home in the Delmarvalous Festival! This decades-old tradition includes competition in several categories of decoy making. You can see select winning pieces on display at the Ward Museum, and find the full list of Chesapeake Challenge Winners here. 2021 Registration form coming soon!
