Luther Lee Nottingham

( - ) Chesapeake, VA

Luther Nottingham served as Northampton County’s Superintendent of Schools and worked as a game warden for the Eastern Shore Game Protective Association of Virginia at the turn of the century. He produced very few decoys, but the sturdy shorebirds he carved attest to careful workmanship. Each bird has relief-carved wings and a humped back due to outlined wings and shoulders. Luther Nottingham’s birds are easily identified by the “L.L.N.” carved in the bottom of each decoy.
